About this piece
Natural pearls are extremely rare, and are formed when a threatening irritant (sand, etc.) makes its way between the two shells of a clam or oyster, into its center. Once the irritant is present, the oyster slowly creates a coating over the irritant in order to protect itself, and thus over months or even years, a pearl is formed. The saying "No grit, no pearl" means that without the presence of that irritant/grit, there would be no pearl. In other words, the pearl signifies that beauty often comes through hardship.
I love the bold, weathered lettering in this piece, and I hope it serves as inspiration to you if youre in the grit phase of your circumstance, or as a reminder to be grateful in the midst of the pearl.
