A few years ago, my friend Joy posted a photo of stones with snow around them. It was one of those photos that sticks with you, and I tried several times to re-create it but couldn’t. When we were shooting this piece, Laura was like “you did it!”

and while I hadn’t intentionally tried to re-create Joy’s stone picture, I think this finally was my best representation of it. 

What’s cool about that was some of Joy’s intent around the photo was that she was making a resolution to be more hands-on ready to take on the world as it was presented to her. Not always pretty or tidy or clean or palatable. But sometimes still very beautiful if you can look past those parts. You might just have to really look for them, and they might show up in unexpected places. This is how what I think of when I see this painting.
