About this piece
My grandmother Esther had this incredibly beautiful black taffeta skirt in her closet that I just adored. With her vintage tiny waist, it only fit me when I was, maybe, nine. But it was gorgeous and I obsessed over it! It was black taffeta with pumpkin–orange, tan and black velvet on it – gosh, I wish I had a photo to show you! And I wish I had asked her where she ever wore it. It was so full and layered, and made a perfect circle when spread all out. I can still feel the fabric in my fingertips, and it brings me so much joy. The base of this painting is how I remember those flowers on that special skirt to look, and I hope the nostalgia and love come through in the prints and canvases you receive of it! (I think Grandma Esther would love it!)
