"Busy sidewalks, city sidewalks dressed in holiday style!..” 🎶

"Home” at the holidays means two lifestyles: a warm, quiet house in the country, as well as the joy of being in a big city with all of its splendor and energy. Although the country is where it’s at for us these days, we wanted to create pieces that would also feel familiar and nostalgic for the city-loving friends of LL.

I painted this piece with the help of an inspiration photo of a 1960s downtown street scene. The tinsel trees on the light posts were something we had in my own hometown, and yes, I’ve already made up several storylines for the shoppers bustling the snowy streets! One of the best times I’ve ever had in Chicago was Christmas shopping downtown with my sister — a hot cocoa in hand, slushing through the sidewalks, looking at the beautifully decorated windows, and taking time to marvel at the huge magnificence that is the city. ♡
